Currently standing in the concessions line at the movie theatre. My cousin, Terry, asked me to make an impromptu run into the city to see The Hateful Eight, and I might not get back before midnight, so making this post now just in case I don’t. More to follow later!

Ok, back home not too long before midnight but glad I made the little entry above just in case.

The movie was pretty darn good, and pretty darn Tarantino-esque, both of which I expected. We heard some rumblings from others in the audience at the end that they didn’t like it or it was a waste of money, but my cousin and I enjoyed it. Great acting all around, especially by Jennifer Jason Leigh, I hope she gets some nominations for it.

Overall it was a pleasant surprise to get the call for a spur-of-the-moment trip to town, and I’m so glad I got to go. It’s always fun getting to hang out with my cousin, not only because we see some pretty good movies but just getting a chance to hang out and chat.

I saw an announcement that The 5th Wave comes out later this month, which I received in book form a few years ago and am only about 1/3 of the way though, so now I’m going to focus on finishing the book before the movie arrives. That’s my plan for the rest of the night, I think, it’ll be a nice way to cap off the evening, so that’s what I’m going to do.

January 1st, 2016

So I had an idea today. I haven’t made any New Year’s resolutions, since whenever I do make them they don’t work out, but I wanted to do something different this year. But what?

Well, I tried to write more in 2015. And I failed. Ok, ok, not so much failed as didn’t hit the goal I set for myself. The goal was 75k words for the entire year, of which I accomplished less than half. There’s no penalty for not reaching that goal, and I could try again this year, but I don’t really want to set myself up for failure again.

Instead I decided I’d make my own little challenge: write a little each day. Here, in this blog, even if it’s just a sentence or two, but just post something once a day for 2016. That way if I have anything else I want to write about, I’ve already started the whole writing process and things could flow from there.

Or not, I suppose, no pressure – that’s the goal here, no feeling forced to hit a set target – but either way I at least sit down and put pen to paper (or fingers to keys) each day.

What will I write about? Just about anything, I reckon; hockey, movies I’ve seen, books I’ve read, games I’ve played, or just random thoughts. Whatever pops into mind will be fair game. Anything that inspires thought or discussion for me might show up, who knows? I can’t promise it’ll be interesting though, but feel free to read and/or comment as you see fit.

Oh, and one other thing. I’ve made a promise to myself (not a resolution!) to not talk about work on here. I’ve had other blogs in the past and, on one in particular which keeps track of your most frequently used tags/words, ‘work’ was the #1 there. Writing is partly about stress relieve and escape for me, ergo I won’t be mentioning work on here after this post.

So we’ll see how this goes I guess. Here we go, 2016, let’s see where you take me.
